Find A New Hero Series: Christian Alzmann

This week we introduce you to Christian Alzmann. Christian's bio page reads like an understated resume of amazing awesomeness. Woah... am I coming off too strong here people? (I'm not though, he really has worked as a Concept Artist for Star Wars Episode 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean, along with many other amazing titles.)

If that doesn't get your nerd boxers in a bunch, then check out his artwork which speaks for itself. He creates characters and scenes that are delicately bold and infinitely mesmerizing.
My current favorite is BIASED, which is currently available at his site.
Where do you find inspiration for your work?
Mostly films, books and other artists. Books like early folk tales and my favorite art is early American illustration like NC Wyeth and Dean Cornwell.

What current work are you most excited about?
I really enjoyed contributing to Battlemilk 3. Its a collection of images and stories from 9 artists, all who have worked for Lucasfilm. It's always fun creating your own story and making images to match, plus the other artists in the book are all so good.

What is one thing you would like to pursue if you had additional free time?
I think I would like to illustrate more of my own stories and offer a collection of them in book form.

What do you typically offer at your booth at SDCC? Is there typically any exclusive items?
Also available for pre-order at Amazon!

Mostly it's prints of my work in various formats. Watercolor paper or canvas Giclee. I also have books where my work has been featured and an instructional DVD on my process. I don't really have anything exclusive except price breaks on items or bundling, but I am there to talk about my work to anyone interested. This year at SDCC will be the release of my first book, Tales: The Art of Christian Alzmann which is being published by Design Studio Press. It will feature my person art work over the past 13 years or so.

What other uses have people found for your designs?
I've had some sculptures and 3D models done by other artists that have liked my work.

What is your favorite autograph or collectible you’ve picked up at a convention?
My favorite booths to visit are Stuart Ng's and Illustration House. I always buy art books but if I'm feeling rich I might buy some original vintage illustration.

What is the best SDCC or convention moment you have had?
Probably having Guillermo Del Toro pop by my booth and look at my work one early Saturday morning. I guess you never know who might stop by.

Check out Christian's website at www.christianalzmann.com and don't forget to drop by his booth in July and check out his artwork in person.
