Find A New Hero Series: Echo Chernik

The next artist we are featuring here at Con Sweet Con is Echo Chernik. Talented is an understatement when referring to the clear depth of inspiration that shines through each of her pieces of artwork. Echo's Art Nouveau is sure to strike your eye and leave a long lasting impression. While shopping through Echo's store, personally we couldn’t help but imagine these beauties hanging up in our cubicles. Seriously though because leaving them at home for 40 hours a week feels like a crime. The Cthulhu Art Nouveau and Goddesses of Cuisine collections feel as if you can peer past the beautiful woman featured and into the picture a million times while catching a new texture or detail each time.We are very grateful that Echo could find the time to sneak a few questions in before San Diego Comic Con and give us a glimpse into that creative machine of a mind.

Where do you find inspiration for your work? I find my inspiration in my interests. I enjoy pin-ups, cyberpunk, art nouveau, horror,…

Find A New Hero Series: Ray Friesen

Meet Ray Friesen. He is currently bringing to life the web comic Divine Whiners that features the gods Hermes, Quetzacoati and Thor. Check out it starting with the first episode here. You will also find a super cute magical combination of Pirate Penguins vs Ninja Chickens here. Along with a cast of other family friendly characters and stories that are sure to tickle your funny bone. Oh and let's say that his artwork is nothing to blink at. You'll agree, I promise. I find his images are softly beautiful and so fraking cute I want to jump in there and just stay in a scene for a while. Ahhh... enough about us though, let's talk with the real star: Ray Friesen.
Where do you find inspiration for your work? Inspiration comes in many forms, so I keep a notebook for whenever I have a good idea. The best ideas are usually while I'm slightly asleep, but when I write those ones down, and look at them at the morning, it usually just says something like 'OWLS!' and I have to…

What To Expect When Your Expecting To Be At SDCC: Poketo Edition

You say "Poketo", I say "Poketo". Yep, that's the same word... just twice. "What's Poketo?" you ask.

Born out of a belief in “art for your everyday,” Poketo is the result of the super cute union of husband and wife team, Ted Vadakan and Angie Myung. Together they form an eye for design that has had Nike, MTV, Weezer, Arcade Fire, SF MoMA and many more knocking down their door looking for a touch of their signature fun and functional design. We think you will be too, once you see what it is they do. Take a look: Poketo is bringing their limited edition wallets to San Diego Comic Con for the 8th year in a row, since 2005. They are proud to announce they will feature a new Adventure Time Wallet Series this year! Poketo's booth prices range from $5-$30 and will feature more than just their wallets. Check out their site, follow their blog, find them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!

Entertain ourselves we must!

65 days till the first full day of SDCC! So here's a few tunes to keep you distracted at work, or during those long pre-con walking warm ups!Look I'm gonna break this down before we even start talking about music. I love music, but at this point in my life I feel like that mom talking about the Matrix if anyone asks what type of music I like. I tried to decipher this explanation here to provide a genre, but I lost my cool kids decoder ring so I can't understand a word of it. Actually, now that I think of it maybe I was only ever accepted to the BK kids club. Our first up, we owe to The Mentalist whom has been stalking this album since before Daft Punk knew they were making it.

Check out Daft Punk - Get Lucky ft. Pharrell Williams

Look, I've been rocking this one for months. Just get the entire Animal Vegetable Mineral Part 1

Yeah this song kills it, and I'm not afraid to say it

Find A New Hero Series: Brian Phillipson

This week we bring to you Brian Phillipson and God the Dyslexic Dog. With credits to his name such as Celebrity DeathMatch, Daria, King of the Hill, Futurama, and Codename: Kids Next Door, you can assume that God the Dyslexic Dog is an impressive piece of work. But why assume, when you can check it at SDCC in person. (You do know you what they say about assuming?) We spoke to Brian about SDCC and his work.

What is your favorite work you have done?

My favorite work is on "God the Dyslexic Dog."  It was my first comic book series and helped break me into the industry - I owe it a lot.

What current work are you most excited about?

The two new comics I'm currently working on: "Future Proof" and "The Legion of Molly Doves."  Both are unique takes on time-travel stories and have potential to be long running comic book series.

What is one thing you would like to pursue if you had additional free time?

Writing an old fashioned novel.  It would be a great challenge …

Stay Classy San Diego Comic Con: Eat At Swieners!

We reached out to our favorite food vendor from last year, Swieners. Who thankfully confirmed they will be at this year's San Diego Comic Con. So if you did not get to experience Swiener's last year, here's all the tantalizing info on a quick bite you won't want to miss.

Last year, we were blessed with the discovery of a little foodie miracle named Swieners while at SDCC. It was located in a parking lot right next to PetCo Park, within walking distance of the infamous Hall H line. Inside of its humble little walls is the home of three marvelously splendid ingredients that will make your con much tastier. What it pretty much boils down to here is: wieners. Ok, so definately not hot dogs and not really sausages. Swieners actually uses Brats, and I would classify them as gourmet. They even have a vegan version or if your vegetarian (or a mouse) you can order just cheese.
Since I just mentioned the cheese, let's get down to brass tacks here. I guess you could go without…
