What To Expect When Your Expecting To Be At SDCC: Squid Kids Ink Edition

Do you currently own any action figures you want to pick up and blow off the bottom of? Not sure why I am asking you this? That's fair. We spoke to Nate Mitchell of Squid Kids Ink and found out how his newest line has kickstarted it's way into SDCC this year, and we are certain you will be glad it did!

Where do you find inspiration for your work?

I still get inspiration from the comics, video games, movies, and toys that I grew up with. Mostly stuff from the 80's and 90's.

What is your favorite work you have done?

The Storm Hawks and How to Train Your Dragon toys are my favorite toy lines that I did while working for someone else. My favorite personal work has to be my Squibs. They might not be as popular as my So Analog products, but it's something that is completely my own.

These little limited edition cuties are too adorable!

What current work are you most excited about?

My Mini 10-Doh! Series 2 was successfully funded through Kickstarter and is debuting at SDCC 2013. I was able to get a bunch of great artists to contribute, so I'm very excited for people to get their hands on them.

What is one thing you would like to pursue if you had additional free time?

I've been struggling for years to develop the story of Squibs. I've started on a storybook, but I really love for that to develop into a video game as well.

What do you typically offer at your booth at SDCC?

I try to have a wide range of items at high and low prices. It's mostly gonna be So Analog 10-Doh! figures, Mini 10-Doh! Blind Boxes, Squib plush, artwork, and some T-shirts.

Is there typically any exclusive items?

This year I'll have several Limited Edition Mini 10-Doh! figures. One is a Gold SDCC 2013 exclusive, as well as an all white Bossy Bear 10-Doh! by David Horvath.

What other uses have people found for your designs?

I have seen a couple of tattoos, but those are only on friends. I haven't seen any strangers get them yet. I do sell DIY versions of my figures, so it's always cool to see how other people customize my figures.

What is your favorite autograph or collectable you’ve picked up at a convention?

I'm an action figure guy, so I always get something from Mattel and Hasbro. But, I also love picking up new art books/sketch books and meeting the artist I admire.
What is the best SDCC or convention moment you have had?
My favorite part of the convention is meeting the people that like my stuff. It's the best when someone says that my stuff was on the top of their list of stuff to buy. Also, just seeing people's reactions to my stuff is very rewarding. SDCC is intense and can be overwhelming for attendees. So, to have someone stop at my small booth and then actually buy something is amazing.

If you wanna sneak peak at the My Mini 10-Doh! Series 2 which will debut at SDCC check out Squid Kids Ink's blog at squidkidsink.blogspot.com. What are these Squibs our friend Nate speaks of? Well, we are glad you asked. See these terribly cute little creatures (and we stress both terrible and cute) have come from below the depths of space, UNDERSPACE. Yep that's right. Just to hug you, awwww.... to death. It's cool, somehow we still are going in for the cuddle.

You can just order us one of each while your at it, k?

Make sure to stop by the Squid Kids Ink Booth at SDCC just make sure to keep your eyes on those Squibs!
