SDCC Recap Continues: Psych The Musical

We are recapping SDCC just as the feeling starts coming back to our toes. Ok, maybe it’s just me and my toes but I still I can’t feel them due to the exorbitant amount of miles I wore in my new wedge Nikes. Running up and down from the Marriott to the convention floor then to Hall H and back has left me wearing flip flops since SDCC. Not to mention a few trips to Petco Park, a million Starbucks trips and then we even hoofed it to our next featured spot - the Psych: The Musical midnight premiere party!Enough about me, let’s get down to it! The gang at USA and Psych know how to treat a lady, or a man, or anyone for that matter as long as you’re a fan! We were really worried we wouldn’t make the cut for this event. It was preview night after all and we fought tooth and nail to get preview night tickets. There was no way we could wait in line at 2pm when the fellow Psych-O's started forming the line. So we had to take the chance of first going to SDCC then leaving to get in line.Befor…

See Yourself In Kloon

We ran a feature on an endlessly talented artist by the name of Felipe Echevarria just a little while back. So when we received word that a new project was in the works and he was a part of it, well it didn't surprise us that it was already entrancingly gorgeous. The project is a children's book named Kloon, which is French for clown. The story is moving and my words cannot do it justice. You should check out the clip here which thoroughly moved me or read below which is an excerpt from their kickstarter:In late 19th century Paris, a mysterious vagabond acquires a young mute boy from a workhouse and tells the child his fortune has finally found him.   Believing he'll be given a family, the boy is actually adopted into a secret society of clowns who use magic and showmanship to steal from the unwitting people of Paris.

The clowns -- a gang of misfits and "irregulars" -- seek to get the last laugh on a society that has long since betrayed them.   Ironically, they…

AMC's Walking Dead SDCC 2013 Booth

One of the most dangerous places to be at San Diego Comic Con this year was AMC's Walking Dead booth. They brought an impressive set and a few real undead to terrorize fans while posing down for fierce photo ops.The set was a mini prison right in the middle of the convention floor. The set was surrounded by screens featuring key scenes from last season and chain link fences which held their zombies in place. If you looked, up you could see Rick manning the prison tower. After waiting in a short line (for us it was prob 20 minutes), we were lead to an area right behind the chain link with two zombies and prop weapons. Obviously we got our model on and then were lead to an inside area into a hallway. There was a small wait, but for what? Well we we loved what we saw when we turned around the corner, the Governor's room! Heads and all. The promotional people handed us an eye patch and directed us to sit in his chair. Personally, I chose to stand in front of the "wall of…

Find a New Hero Series: Paul Guinan

Multimedia artist Paul Guinan started out at First Comics, retouching the first manga translation published in the U.S., Lone Wolf and Cub. While at First, he co-created Cargonauts, a precursor to Firefly. Paul later co-created Chronos for DC Comics. With his wife, Anina Bennett, he created the groundbreaking science fiction series Heartbreakers. Paul’s art for their graphic novel Heartbreakers Meet Boilerplate was nominated for an Eisner Award, and in 2011 the couple was honored with Inkpot Awards. Most recently, he and Anina collaborated on the unique illustrated hardcover books Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvel (in development as a feature film from producer J.J. Abrams) and Frank Reade: Adventures in the Age of Invention.
Where do you find inspiration for your work?
In life. As a history buff I often incorporate historical events in my concepts. It's important for an artist to look at things outside of their own field. So, comic book artists should look at other forms of…

Fit Art Appreciation Into Your SDCC: Eidolon Fine Arts Booth

We spoke to Ryan of Eidolon Fine Arts to see what we should expect at their booth #4801 this year. He also gave us a sneak peek into what it is like behind the booth and where else we can find everything Eidolon Fine Arts has to offer.

At Eidolon Fine Arts, attendees will find a variety of media intended to engage with art that's a little outside of the norm. We've got books, ranging from monographs to sketchbooks and show catalogs, prints, and, of course, LOTS of original art. While these are all pretty standard items for SDCC, I like to think that our content is extends beyond pop culture and into something with a deeper resonance. I heavily believe in work that features humanistic values, work that speaks to us of us, and everything that the booth features draw upon these humanist values. Eidolon Fine Arts looks to provide our audience with insight, reflection, confrontation and a lasting dialogue with art. This year, we'll be featuring original art from Jason Shawn Alex…

What Are Your DKE Toys Priorities This SDCC?

So we were working on a compilation of all the sweet releases that we've seen over the last couples weeks for DKE Toys when we received this awesome sheet. It kills my awkward mess of a list and will be oh so helpful on the floor and in panel lines when plotting your next move. Still not sure what your interested in? We compiled the releases below and maybe that will help or you could just collect them all. Just remember... these are limited!!! Like super awesomely, "look what I scored" style.

Now if for some reason you haven't checked out the goods... welp kids let's go shopping!
